This weekend, we had planned to spend a family day at my sister\u2019s house. My daughter, Lily, loves swimming, and by the beginning of the week, she had already prepared her swimsuit, eagerly waiting for the weekend to swim in the pool with her cousins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we arrived at my sister\u2019s house, all the children were already in the water. I told Lily to change so she could join them, but a few minutes later, I saw her near the pool, looking upset, watching the other kids having fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This intrigued me because Lily loves the water, and it was strange that she wasn\u2019t swimming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I approached her and asked, \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong, honey? Why aren\u2019t you going in the water?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She replied, her eyes filled with tears, \u201cAunt Susan won\u2019t let me swim. Everyone else can, but not me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I took a deep breath and went to see my sister to understand what was going on. Her response left me speechless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I went to see my sister and asked her what was going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her answer chilled me: \u201cI wanted to avoid too much disturbance. Lily splashes. My kids are used to a certain calm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
